You borrowed some books from your school or college library. Unfortunately you have to go away to visit a sick relative and cannot return the books in time.
Write a letter to the library. Explain what has happened and tell them what you want to do about it.
Dear Sir,
I apologise for the delay since I borrowed a few science books before exams to prepare for the same; however, I could not return them before the due date owing to the mishap happened at my house for which I had to leave for my hometown immediately after the examination, and did not get adequate time to visit the library.
My grandfather suffered a severe chest pain; and unfortunately, he has been diagnosed with cancer owing to which he has to undergo an operation within this week. I have to stay with him during his entire convalescing period since he has nobody by his side to look after him.
I have no idea when would I return; therefore, I am sending those books through courier service to avoid the accumulation of penalties. I would be grateful if you could apprise me of the amount I owe to the library for keeping books more than the permitted time so that I could pay the fine via online mode.
